Minnesota Wild Player Freddy Gaudreau Is Not Related To Johnny Gaudreau

NHL star players Frederick Gaudreau and Johnny Gaudreau may have the same surname, but their family tree doesn’t intersect at any point.

Frederick, or Freddy Gaudreau is a Canadian professional ice hockey player. The Bromont, Quebec native currently serves as a center for the Minnesota Wild.

On the other hand, Johnny Gaudreau was an American ice hockey player. He was a left-wing for the Columbus Blue Jackets. Sadly, Johnny and his younger brother, Matthew Gaudreau, lost their lives on Friday.

Highlights

  • Despite sharing the same family name and being involved in the same field, Freddy Gaudreau is not related to Johnny Gaudreau.
  • While Freddy was born in Bromont, Quebec, Johnny was born in Oldmans Township, New Jersey.
  • Interestingly, both of them have Canadian origins.

In addition to sharing the same surname, another thing that is common between Freddy and Johnny is their skill on ice.

The Canadian national debuted in the NHL with the famous team Nashville Predators in 2016-2017.

Freddy also played with them in the 2017 Stanley Cup Finals. He scored the winning goals in Games 3 and 4.

As for Johnny Gaudreau, he made his NHL debut with the Calgary Flames in 2013-2014. The late player was a Calder Trophy finalist, multiple-time NHL All-Star, and won the Lady Byng Trophy in 2017.

Freddy Gaudreau And Johnny Gaudreau Come From Different Family Backgrounds

As mentioned above, the two NHL players don’t share a familial connection. Their same surname and involvement in ice hockey seem only a coincidence.

Interestingly, they both have Canadian roots. With so many things in common between them, it is likely that people would wonder if they are blood-related.

Freddy was born on 1 May 1993 in Bromont, Quebec, Canada to his parents, France Desrosiers and Jean-Pierre Gaudreau. He is said to be the youngest of his siblings.

The Bromont native went to Cégep de Shawinigan. At the same time, Freddy played in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

The Minnesota Wild player traveled two hours from Drummondville to Shawinigan to graduate.

On the other hand, Johnny’s heritage is rooted in Canada from his father’s side. His father, Guy Gaudreau, is a Canadian. But his mother, Jane, has Italian and Irish heritage.

Johnny has three siblings, two sisters and one brother, Matthew. His brother passed away along with him recently. The Gaudreau siblings grew up in the Salem, New Jersey area.

They were influenced by their father’s career as a former football and hockey player and high school coach.

After graduating from Gloucester Catholic High School, the late ice hockey star attended Boston College and graduated.

Nonetheless, Johnny and Freddy’s shared surname seems only a coincidence, as they hail from different families and two different countries.
