Isabelle Altmayer-Barnier is a former lawyer who worked at a law firm from 1981 to 1991. She met her spouse in the early 1980s and married in 1982.

According to her LinkedIn profile, Mrs. Barnier worked as a project manager at the Ministry of Health, Youth, and Sports from June 2007 to 2018, when Nicolas Sarkozy was president.
After that, she devoted herself to youth, women’s health, and nutrition while her husband was serving as the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries.
From 2013 to 2015, Michel Barnier’s wife worked as Director of Development and Partnerships at the Association of Citizen Entrepreneurs.
Presently, Isabelle Altmayer-Barnier is responsible for communications and fundraising for the “Fondation La vie au Grand Air.” It is an organization devoted to children’s protection.
